I was born in Kingsthorpe, Northamptonshire, England in 1959. I lived in England until December 1973, and moved to Bulawayo, Rhodesia (Zimbabwe).
I went to Milton High School in Bulawayo, which I can honestly say I hated every minute of it. I finished school at the end of 1975, and started an apprenticeship with the Rhodesia Railways, as a Fitter / Machinist.
In 1978 I was called-up to the Rhodesian army for my national service. Basic training was a killer but we did pass out, I was then posted to Inyanga 3 Independent Company RAR, (The Rhodesian African Rifles). I was in the army during the time when the country was in the process of it's change to a black government. I finished my army just after Robert Mugabe came into power in 1980.
In 1981, I then moved to South Africa to meet up with my then Fiancé Pauline in Bryanston, Johannesburg. We were married in the Bryanston, Baptist Church on June 27th 1981.
After arriving in the country, for a time I was moving from job to job. Starting off in a chicken processing company, then moving into various other work until 1986 when I joined the "Western Areas Gold Mine" as a fitter. We moved to Westonaria, where we are still living. In 1990 I was retrenched from the mines, due to mine closure. In August 1990 I joined the "Johannesburg City Council" as a maintenance fitter on one of their waste water treatment works. Over the years I have been promoted from fitter to senior artisan, then to a planner. In 2000, the Johannesburg City Council made us into a utility called "Johannesburg Water (Pty) Ltd", here I was promoted to Operational Manger in Planning, this is my current position.
